Quick summary: Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng, famous for his online persona Uncle Roger, has announced the birth of his first child following a week-long stay in a neonatal intensive care unit in the United States. The couple brought their newborn home on Father’s Day, marking a milestone that follows their multi-cultural wedding celebration in Portugal last year. For public policy and healthcare practice, high profile stories of successful neonatal care highlight the vital importance of robust medical support systems and accessible family health resources towards ensuring parental well-being and infant safety during critical postpartum transitions.
Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng, widely known online as Uncle Roger, has announced the birth of his first child with his wife Sabrina Ahmed.
Ng shared the news on social media on Monday, coinciding with Father’s Day in many countries. The newborn had spent a week in the neonatal intensive care unit at Huntington Hospital in the US before coming home.
“And then there were three. After a week in the NICU, bringing you home today is the most special Father’s Day,” wrote Ng.
He thanked the doctors and staff at the hospital “for looking after [them] and bringing this joy into [their] lives,” adding a characteristic humorous note: “Somewhere I hear my Uncle whispering, ‘Put MSG on baby, it’ll be better baby, smarter’.”
The announcement comes about four months after the couple first revealed they were expecting. In February, Ng posted: “New nephew coming soon.” The gender of the child has not been publicly disclosed. Ng has not shared further details about the reasons for the NICU stay, focusing instead on gratitude for the medical care received. The post included family photos of the newborn and the parents’ hands.
Fans and celebrities, including chef Gordon Ramsay, with whom Ng has previously collaborated, sent congratulatory messages following the announcement.
The couple matched on a dating app and had their first in-person meeting at Boston Airport. “Within a few months, in March 2023, I realised already that I loved her and wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. The rest is history,” said Ng. He proposed in Tokyo in 2024.
They married on 19th July 2025 in a three-day wedding celebration in Sintra, Portugal. Vogue magazine, which covered the ceremony, described the event as “a blend of Malaysian, Chinese, and Bengali traditions.” It included a sunset cruise, sangeet, tea ceremonies, and a reception.
Ng, born on 15th March 1991 in Kuala Lumpur, first gained international fame in 2020 through his Uncle Roger character. The persona, a middle-aged Asian man with an exaggerated Cantonese accent, went viral for critiquing a BBC Food video on cooking egg fried rice. Catchphrases such as “haiyaa” and “fuiyoh,” along with strong opinions on proper Asian cooking techniques and enthusiasm for MSG, helped him build a global audience of millions.
Ng studied at Northwestern University in the US and has since expanded his career into stand-up tours, a Hulu special, and business ventures. His fried rice restaurant chain Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger operates in Malaysia, and in May 2026, he opened his first London restaurant, Kawan in Chinatown. “Kawan” means “friend” in Malay.
